A publicist , a professional photographer, a teacher on Domestika and the founding art director of Fruta studios, Nay Jiménez understands the photography world tenfold.

From the very beginning Nay enjoyed capturing life. Piles of old photos adorned her home. Memories captured in still, sparked interest. However, it was only when technology advanced that her passion truly burned and she was able to walk around telling her life through photos captured on her phone. Come the advancement of social platforms and the combination of her creative mind and flair for technology, Nay built an empire filled with vigor, colour and life.

In a world where Instagram and Facebook were underdogs Nay took to the social platforms creating content that were colourful symmetries and aesthetic golden shots. She was obsessed with editing her images and experimenting with content . She knew this application was going to be big. In 2013, Jèmenez had Instagram’s following and over 30,000 followers . That was it. She had cultivated an audience and become a pioneer for social networks. Soon Brands such as Disney , Puma and Samsung took to Nay for content.
Nay looks to tell a story with her photograph’s delving deep into the details to draw in her audience. A playful endeavour and a spectacle of visual beauty, is Chilean based photographer Nay Jiménez's stance. Using her creative eye and understanding of intricacies Nay creates a world of vibrancy, a melodrama of colours and a strong concept that builds narrative. If that isn't enough, the use of stop motion is captivated to bring her imagery to life. Nay works with every kind of media and every kind of prop from models to food. Nothing is off limits no hands uncaptured. Her world is enriched with candy hues a somewhat Wes Anderson dream that makes a fairytale out of reality and transforms ideas into unique imagery.

Nay’s style is bold and sharp. She is inspired by the likes of Martin Parr, Cindy Sherman and my personal favourite Nadia Lee Cohen but the first artist that ever impressed her was Stanley Kubrick. Nay says these people amongst thousands inspire her because they dare to intervene in the art of photography to create new worlds.

Nay understand the importance of social presence in today tech obsessed world and uses her imagery to create fruitful bursts of eye catching photography. One that can be understand and appreciated by the generation of today. She emphasises the importance of technology as a productive method of communication. Everybody has a phone in this day and age and Nay helps to teach that mobiles can be a powerful tool in creating social content that is bold and productive but something that can also tackle visual issues. It’s important here, to understand how powerful this generation are in creating and shaping a future for change and producing meaningful content is one way to help that.

In present day, Nay has a small team working with her at her Studio Fruta. She wanted a place that was colourful, varied and fresh and a team that would become her second family, that would have the same passion and drive she did to eat the world, one shot at a time.

She wants the next generation of photographers to be fearless, to never compare and always trust their heart. As your creative output are your own unique brillance. It's not the tool but the vision that creates greatness. Her most favourite or important photos have been taken on a phone.

However, Nay speaks truth in saying that if you have a vision you need to push for it. It's not easy but reaching for the top was never going to be an easy journey. The photography world is undoubtedly an industry led by men and it is very easy to become invisible or silenced. So this is when you fight for your dream. Even as a director it can be hard to be seen, so strength and resilience are important. Mistakes will be made and at times you will feel like a ‘girl goat in the paws of a horse’ but you keep striving, you learn and never give up.
